This Summer, we will be highlighting five empowered interns who are choosing to Seek MORE with us this semester. Get to know them by reading their stories and learning what seeking MORE means to them.
Sarah has been with MORE for three semesters, as she serves as our Lead Intern. Read more to learn about how she has grown in her role at MORE Magazine.
I'm Sarah Oliver, a rising junior at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, pursuing a degree in marketing. While I'm still figuring out exactly what career I want, I've gained an excellent background in digital marketing, and it's become a great passion of mine.
This summer marks a whole year since I joined the MORE team, and I couldn't be more thankful. MORE Magazine has allowed me to meet a multitude of empowering women and improve my connection within the Indy community. After just one year, I've started to build a name for myself amongst the leaders and successors in business.
Looking back on who I was a year ago is like staring at another person. Thanks to my mentors at MORE Magazine, I've learned how to break out of my shell. Over the time I've been part of this team, I've landed two other internships, MySherri and Green Loop Marketing, because of the skills I've cultivated with MORE. Whether it's skills in leadership, networking, or just general life, you won't walk away from this internship empty-handed.
I've always dreamed of working within the beauty industry, and while that dream is still relevant today, I've found that what's most important to me is working at a company with values aligning with mine. Over the last year, I've been fortunate to work on teams of powerful women who build each other up. This has shown me what a world of difference you can make in any company you work with.
I continue to seek MORE because of this company's values and the growth I've seen in myself during my time on this team. I owe it to my mentors, Arianna Cruz and Marie Fisher. They have truly made the most significant impact on my life. No matter where I end up in my future career, I will always hold the utmost love for MORE Magazine.
Summer of 2022
My name is Sarah Oliver, and I am a sophomore at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Purdue University. I’m pursuing a degree in marketing and I’m potentially going to add on a management degree as well. I hope to be a Marketing Lead one day and while I’m still learning where I want to do that, the beauty has always been a passion of mine. I feel it’s an industry that can be very empowering to women. My dream is to work for a company that has the goal of doing just that, empowering women. I want to help build the confidence of other women and help others feel comfortable in their own skin.
Growing up, I struggled with my own insecurities about looks and I was constantly comparing myself to others. It took a lot of self-growth to escape that mindset. It was women that supported each other and lifted others up that helped me break that constant cycle.
College was the turning point in that mindset. I found the most supportive group of friends and I’ve been accepted into a community of women within Indy that are helping others chase their goals. I’ve been able to find my self-love and now I’m looking to help others find that same confidence for themselves.
I am currently in the third semester with MORE Magazine and I’ve been promoted to Lead Intern. When I first heard of this internship last year, I applied thinking I wouldn’t get it. I had no idea what this internship would bring me and I am so thankful that I took it. Over the last few semesters working with MORE I’ve learned how to network, how to stand up for myself in the business world, and how to be a leader. MORE Magazine has given me the opportunity to intern with MySherri where I’m learning more about the marketing world and I’m gaining experience in leading a group of my peers.
This internship has brought me more than I could ever imagine and my life is drastically different from when I first took on the role. To me, seeking MORE means going after what you want and leaving the doubt behind. It means being authentically you and not letting someone change that.
I am proud to work with a company that inspires women and works to help others. The impact that I’ve seen MORE Magazine make is incredible and I’m happy to say that I am part of that.
Sarah will be part of the Seek MORE Internship Program for Summer 2023. Learn more about how you and your company can support the program, and connect with Sarah on LinkedIn. Our Seek MORE Internship Program has been proudly championed by Long-Sharp Gallery.
